Womens Institute

‘All kinds of opportunities for all kinds of women’

Denstone Women’s Institute was formed in 1921 and currently has over 40 members.

Meetings are held at Denstone Village Hall on the third Monday of every month starting at 7.30 p.m.  We invite a speaker to each meeting and topics are wide-ranging,  encompassing the serious and the not so serious -  something to suit all tastes.

Issues which affect women both in the UK and abroad are brought to our attention through the National Federation of Women’s Institutes,  and every member,  each year,  receives 8 issues of the WI magazine,  Living.

The County Federation organises events throughout Staffordshire,  including music,  craft and cookery days and there is a very popular General Knowledge Quiz in which over 80 teams participate.  Denstone representatives were the proud winners of the competition in 2010.

Denstone is part of the Two Rivers Group.  Twice a year,  Denstone,  Rocester,  Alton and Wootton WIs meet together for a talk and a social evening,  and at Christmas we have a group Carol Service.

Within our own WI,  as well as the monthly meetings,  we are very active.  We organise theatre trips,  an annual Birthday Dinner,  a sports evening and a lunch in Spring.  We also have regular evening walks throughout the summer and a post Christmas walk.  In recent years we have had very enjoyable residential walking weekends at Church Stretton and Llandudno.

The Women’s Institute is non-political and offers friendship and a warm welcome to all ages and creeds.  Do come along to see what the WI is all about.
