DYF - Sponsored Bike Ride

DYF - Sponsored Bike Ride
2.9.2007

Despite the weather Denstone Youth Fund pressed on with a Sponsored Bike Ride on Sunday 2nd September.  The rain – at times torrential – did not dampen the spirits of the 27 riders (some only 3 years old) who set off in support of the groups efforts to provide a teen recreation area.

The route was along the Old Railway Line from Denstone and was divided into three stages – the Road Bridge, the Churnet Bridge and Alton Station.  Wet through and mud splattered returned those valiant souls who collectively will have raised in excess of £200 for the cause.

DYF would like to thank everyone who helped with the event - for providing and putting up marquees; loaning and moving furniture and equipment; for manning check points and refreshment stands.

Thanks too to all the riders and their families for taking part. But DYF would especially like to thank Paul Grys who braved the elements to barbecue over 100 burgers and hot dogs to feed riders and supporters alike.

Please see pictures from the event below.

What a setup!   Yes ladies, I am going to put this on the website :-)

Some intense preparation going on here.

The umbrella club - a key tool for the afternoon we picked.

The current bike ride record holder;
1) For raising the most sponsor money - many thanks.
2) Finishing in record time.

The Boss!

Jamie Oliver has got nothing a this guy. 110% dedicated to the job! Thank you

One of the few check point cards that didn't get folded up into nothing and soaking wet - impressive.

All done!

The general theme after 3 hours of constant rain :-(

The Denstone Show
22.9.2007

A really successful day, raising over £800 towards DYF’s funds but equally important community spirit at its very best, with both young and old alike helping to make the Show a very enjoyable day.  The weather was kind, with only a fleeting shower.

87 people entered the Show this year and there were 322 entries.  The show was opened by Mrs Jean Wright, last year’s overall Show winner, and Mrs Judy Hood who won the Jessie Birch Cup last year.  Mrs Jean Wright went on to be the overall winner again this year.

The overall winner in the Children’s section was a five year old young lady who attends All Saints School in Denstone, who entered 20 classes.

Thank you to all our entrants, helpers, visitors, individuals and companies who donated prizes for the raffle or competitions.  Without you we couldn’t have done it!

Aladdin
30.2.2008

Denstone Village Hall was packed for five riotous pantomime performances in February 2008  when the villagers of Denstone, Ellastone and Wootton combined to perform Aladdin. The Tom Boden Memorial Fund, which had organised the production, wanted to bring together the three villages in a community activity as well as raising money to be spent on providing recreational facilities in all three parishes.

The cast of almost 40 people ranging in ages from 7 to over 70 was highly praised by the director, Jenny Richardson who said, “I was delighted with what they achieved, and so impressed by the hard work, commitment and talent shown by everyone. I was very lucky to have such an amazing team, both on stage and off.  David Boden Richard Bosworth and Ed Barker sorted everything technical between them, Terry Davies was our splendid Musical Director, and then to have had Barbara Frayn of ‘Hot Gossip’ as our choreographer was the icing on the cake. We had a great deal of fun putting the show on, and I’m very pleased that it was so well received.
